October's Mina Maven DJ Cry Baby

Where are you originally from and where do you live now?

Born and raised in Miami. Living in Brooklyn.

Did you feel like moving to NY at the time you did was a good decision?

Moving to New York has been amazing for me. Everyone has been
really supportive of what I do.

How did you know that Dj'ing was what you wanted to do?

I was always obsessed with playing music for my friends and
getting them into stuff they wouldn't normally like so I guess it
was only natural to start doing it professionally.

How has fashion been a part of your life?

I was pretty much born into it. My mom always had an amazing sense
of style and taught me everything I know.  We owned a couple high-end
boutiques in Miami and one in Los Angeles. Once they closed down I had
the option to do it all over again but I felt it was time to do
something different with my life.

What is something you recently purchased at Mina Miami Beach that you love?

I bought a beautiful silk skirt and floral blouse that I'm obsessed with!

What was the first event you ever played at?

When I first moved to New York I used to play at a bar called Trophy Bar on Sundays with my good friend (and awesome DJ) William Robbins.

What's the best event you've played at?

During the last WMC, my friend Camp Gabby, Louisahhh and I hosted a really fun 2 day event with really amazing Dj's like Radio Slave, Arthur Baker, Eli Escobar, Simiam Mobile Disco, etc...

What is one of your favorite tracks to play out right now?

Lovework by Black Light Smoke.

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?

NETFLIX ADDICT

Did you find it challenging to pack up, move to a new city and start a new career all in the same year?

No. I love change and am known for my constant need to reinvent

myself. The hard part was learning to get better at what I do and
turning it into a career.

Tell me a little about the kind of music you play?

Mixture of Deep House, Minimal Techno and Tech House.  Very deep,
dark and sexy.

What advice would you give to young girls today that may want to
follow in your foot steps?

No matter how crazy and out of reach your dreams may seem, don' t push

them away. Anything can be done if you have a strong passion and
willingness to work hard at it.  I quit my last retail job in April of
last year, packed all my things and moved to New York to become a DJ.
Everyone thought it was the craziest thing they ever heard but I knew
in my heart how badly I wanted it and that I would stop at nothing to
make it happen.  It wasn't easy but now I'm playing alongside some of
the best DJ's in the world and playing the best clubs in New York
city! It has made me realize that I have the power to make anything
happen so now I'm going to buy myself a unicorn and some rainbows.

What's one must have item in your closet?

My Unif tie-dye fringe kimono!

Any secret Beauty tips?

I've been trying to go the natural route these days.  I've recently
discovered how much better my skin looks since I stopped using harsh
chemicals on my skin.  Signature lip color is Russian Red by Mac.

If you take any activity, any art, any discipline, any skill - take it and push it as far as it will go, push it beyond where it has never been before, push it to the wildest edges of edges, then you force it into the realm of magic." - Tom Robbins (1936)

  5. I really like this Maven, very natural and pretty. It's nice to see a girl from Miami setting herself a part and making a splash in what was once thought of as a predominately male industry.
