Meet Michelle Westman, she is a stunning 19 year old Miami native that just recently graduated from Carrolton School of the Sacred Heart in Coconut Grove. With her intelligence, knowledge, incredible athletic ability, scholarly accomplishments & an innate sense, Michelle is a great role model for young girls today. At her tender age of 19, she has excelled in many different ways. We interviewed her, captured her sense of style & her thoughts on school, priorities & making a leap of independence.
So, Michelle let's get started...what is your one must have item for the summer in Miami? My phone - without a doubt! It keeps me connected to everyone!!!
Now tells us about a few accomplishments you are proud of?
My top two: winning second in state - twice - at the Regional Rowing Championship, & taking MVP for Carrolton's Rowing Team. I'm very into sports - I've tapped into all of them, but some of my favorites are ice skating, soccer, basketball, swimming, synchronized swimming, gymnastics, tennis, cheerleading, rowing & track and field. I took dancing at a young age: ballet, jazz & hip hop. I was in the Nutcracker ballet at the Miami Conservatory. I also enjoy sculpting, I actually won an award at Carollton for a sculpture I did of my upper body.
Now - let's get into the good stuff! What fashion tip would you give to girls in high school?
Dress to impress, make other people look at your style and say "Wow! I really like what she is wearing." Make a statement whatever it may be, this will help you stand out.
Don't try and blend in with every one else. Let people copy your style, don't copy theirs.
Your thoughts on wearing a uniform to school?
Made my life sooooo much easier every morning! I didn't have to sit in front of my closet & think about putting an outfit together.
Now tell us...what do you like about shopping at Mina?
Like? I LOVE shopping at Mina! I can find trendy, one-of-a-kind outfits at perfect prices & the fit is always great. It's my happy place.
What's your fashion advice for young girls in high school today?
You don't need to spend a ton on super expensive clothes to feel great. All you need is to find a look, fit & color that works for you. The girls at Mina are actually great with all of this. When you walk in, they're ready to help find looks that compliment your style. They make you feel so comfortable!
Who would you say inspires your wardrobe?
I'm a fan of certain celebrity styles... some of my wardrobe pieces are inspired by Blake Lively & the cast from Gossip Girl. I also like to it change up a bit, mix it up with my own personal style! I express myself through my outfit.
What are some of the most important things in your life at the moment?
What about college - any fears?
I just started a huge University where there are thousands of other kids just starting off. I'm going to have to be more responsible & more independent with my work. I graduated from a small school where the faculty was hands on - this time around, it's up to me. I'm definitely excited & scared at the same time.
What's the difference with college girl style & high school style?
With freedom comes change. And more importantly...your parents won't be there to tell you "You cant walk out of the house wearing that!" :)
Beautiful
